Our baby is a baby no more! Audrey turned 2 last Friday. [Time to lose this baby weight!] We celebrated last Saturday with her Oh "Two"dles Mickey Mouse Clubhouse birthday party. It was a good bit smaller than last year with just family this time, and we still had nearly 30 people celebrating with us. The kids and adults were able to enjoy the unusually warm day by sitting on the deck or watching the kids on the playground.
As with all age milestones, Audrey had her checkup at the doctor this week. Aud weighs 26 pounds (42 percentile) and is 33.5 inches long (40 percentile). Her head still measures in at 90%.
Her vocabulary has really grown recently, but I think a big part of that is our understanding of what she's saying. Who knew that "EEEEeeeee" meant oatmeal. Audrey has unfortunately learned the use of the word "that" a little too early. Everything is "waaan dat" and most of the time we have to go through several iterations of following her finger until we can figure out what "dat" is.
Nighttime has improved, but is still not optimal. She wakes up during the night about 50% of the time. It's usually one week on, one week off. We are THRILLED that she has started going down without a fight. She won't even let us read to her now. Once we tell her it's bedtime and mention her Dora blanket (a tacky Dora Snuggie that I bought on sale at Kroger) she goes as quickly as possible up to her room and pulls on the crib rails to get in. She immediately lays down and waits for me to lay the Dora blanket over her. I' ve still been kneeling with her afterwards to say prayers, but she has been dismissing me with "AMMME" (amen) or "B-EYE" (bye).
As much as I would like to assuage her love of Dora the Explorer, it's not going to happen anytime soon. She can't go to a grandparents' house without pointing at the TV and saying "Door-ah". It's usually the first word she says when she wakes up. When she needs comfort, she wants to watch Dora on my iphone. In fact, she did not cry for her vaccine at her 2 year appointment yesterday because I was playing the Dora themesong on my phone while showing her the Dora band aid that we had brought just for this reason.
Dora is on her blanket, her toothbrush, her plates, her silverware, her cups, her pajamas, bath toys, etc. The girl is obsessed! Mom and Dad took her to the park a few weeks ago and she was swinging with a hispanic child. When the girl ran off, Audrey screamed "DOOOOR-AH" after her. Oh, my child.
She also is interested in her baby dolls, animals, books, and Mickey and Minnie Mouse. Audrey has gotten to where she loves to read, but REFUSES to let anyone read to her. While I get ready in the mornings, she sits in her chair in her room and looks at books.
The other thing Audrey loves right now is GRANDPARENTS! She knows they are wrapped around her finger and the grandparents are shameless spoilers. Audrey and Pop have been going on moseys each Saturday running errands. Aud loves her carseat in Pop's car. He also lets her watch movies in the car (Dora of course).
Niecie and Pop and Grandma take turns watching Audrey on Wednesday nights while Graham and I have tennis practice. It's nice that she gets to see them during the week!
